Margin is the website for the Machine Learning Club at St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School. This page explains what it stores about you, who can see it, and how to get a copy or delete it.
Who runs Margin
Margin is run by the club’s leaders, with a staff sponsor at the school.
What Margin stores
- Your account: Your school email address, your name, your club role, whether your account is approved, and when you joined.
- Your progress: Which lessons you opened, how much time you spent on each, which ones you marked complete, and the labs you worked on.
This is used to run the club and to see where members need help.
What Margin does not collect
- No passwords. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your school email.
- No location, camera, or microphone.
- No activity outside of Margin.
- No ads, and no outside analytics or tracking tools. The recruiting game’s poster counts (below) stay on the club’s own server. Your data is never sold.
Who can see your data
You can see your own data. Club leaders (the founder, co-founder, teacher sponsor, president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer) can see the club dashboard, which shows each member’s name, email, and progress. Your progress is not shown to other students.
When you sign up, a club leader gets an email with your name and school email so your account can be approved.
Outside services
- Supabase: Stores Margin’s database and handles sign-in, on servers in Canada.
- Resend: Sends the sign-in code emails and the sign-up notice.
- Cloudflare: Delivers the website securely.
- jsDelivr and Google: Backflip Lab loads its simulation tools from jsDelivr, and CNN Explorer loads its image models from Google. Neither receives any information about your account.
The recruiting game
The club’s game at margin.school/play needs no account. It keeps the following on the club’s own server, not with any outside service:
- Your clone: The taps from each ranked round you play, the clone trained from them, and its score.
- Your name on the board: The first name, last initial and grade you type in. The public leaderboard shows these and your score, and nothing else about you. Club leaders can take any name off the board.
- Poster counts: A random number your browser makes up, which poster you scanned, and how far through the game you got. It isn’t linked to you unless you type your name in on the same device.
The game saves its settings and your place in your own browser and sets no cookies. Applying to the club is a separate Google Form, filled in with your school account; the game never sees your answers.
Cookies
Margin sets a cookie when you sign in, to keep you signed in. It sets no cookies if you are not signed in. Some labs also save your place in your own browser.
Getting a copy or deleting your data
On your account page you can download a copy of your data or delete your account. Deleting it erases your data from Margin’s database right away. Otherwise, your data is kept while you have an account.
Parents
Only @ycdsbk12.ca school accounts can sign up, and a club leader must approve each new member. Parents and guardians can contact the club’s staff sponsor at the school to see what is stored about their child, get a copy, or have it deleted.
Changes
The date at the top changes whenever this page does. Members will be told about any important change.
