Terms of Use
Last updated September 13, 2026
Margin is provided free of charge to members of a high school machine learning club. By using the platform you agree to these terms.
Eligibility
Margin is intended for club members. Anyone may register, but an account requires approval by a club leader before any course material is accessible. Approval may be declined, and it may be withdrawn if these terms are breached.
Accounts are personal and may not be shared. All activity carried out under your account, including every question sent to the AI tutor, is recorded against your name.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use another member’s account, or permit another person to use yours.
- Access data that is not your own, probe the platform for vulnerabilities, or circumvent the approval system. Suspected security issues should be reported to the address below; good-faith reports will not result in penalties.
- Use the AI tutor for harassment, for unlawful purposes, for academic dishonesty outside the club, or to generate material that breaches your school’s code of conduct.
- Submit automated or high-volume traffic to the platform or the tutor. The tutor operates under a daily usage limit shared by all members.
- Republish or redistribute the course material.
The AI tutor
The tutor is a language model and its answers may be inaccurate. Do not rely on them as authoritative, particularly for assessed schoolwork.
Tutor conversations are stored and are visible to club leaders. Questions are transmitted to a third-party provider for processing. Both are described in the privacy policy, which you should read before using the tutor.
Tutor availability is subject to a daily usage limit and to the availability of the provider, and is not guaranteed.
Ownership
The lessons, labs, simulations, and the platform itself remain the property of the club organizer. Membership grants permission to use them; it does not grant a licence to redistribute them.
You retain ownership of your own work, including code you write in a lab and questions you submit. Margin stores this material in order to operate the platform and to allow club leaders to identify where members need support. It will not be published or sold, or used for any purpose outside running the club.
Availability and warranties
Margin is provided on an “as is” basis. It is a student-run project hosted on personal hardware. No uptime is guaranteed, no guarantee is given that saved work will be retained indefinitely, and features may be changed or withdrawn. Retain your own copies of any work you wish to keep.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the club organizer accepts no liability for loss arising from use of Margin, including lost work, downtime, or reliance on output from the AI tutor. Nothing in these terms limits any right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Termination
You may delete your account at any time from your settings page. Club leaders may suspend or remove an account that breaches these terms, or on departure from the club. The privacy policy governs the handling of your data following removal.
School policies
Margin is not an official school system and is not operated by the school board. Your school’s policies on technology, academic honesty, and conduct apply to your use of the platform.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be amended. The date above is updated when they are, and club members will be notified of material changes. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the amended terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
